Excuse me for coopting you mailing list; but I want you to be aware of the Weeds Across Borders II conference. The first was held in Tucson in 2002. This biennial conference focusing on across the border cooperation and communication about invasive platns will be held on June 2, 3 & 4. The conference info will be posted on www.NAWMA.org this week. Attached is the tentative agenda. The conference is limited to the first 125 who register. We hope that each border State's DNR/TNC weed person will be able to attend. We are especially looking for examples of State-Mexico partnerships and need at least 2 good examples for presentations. Help if you can. Thank you very much, Bonnie 651-291-6104

Dear Larry,
The Southwestern Association of Conservation Botanists is quickly taking shape. The web site (http://www.swacb.org) isn't totally finished, but we might as well start using it. You will need to register to post to the forums and when you first post, please introduce yourself. I am hoping that this venue for communication will be a vast improvement over a listserv.

The organization is still in the formative stage. The steering committee will be revising the business plan in preparation for incorporating as a non-profit. Until we actually have a set of bylaws, the membership to SWACB is free.

If you have announcements for the current events page or the classified advertising, please send them. It will help me if you mark them with SWACB announcement as the subject. I would also welcome any other suggestions.
Yours,
Patricia

Dear Larry,

I don't suppose you would let me define southwest with the region with
chile, adobe, vigas, and sunshine? The assumption I am making is that it's
AZ, S. CA, CO, W. OK, NM, NV, W. TX, and UT. But, hey, we are inclusive, if
other people want to join us, all the better! Our regional coverage is
pretty well spelled out in the bioregional forums.

Please make it clear that right now the services are free, but later on some
of them will require membership.

I started aggregating news into an rss feed but I have been focusing on the
southwest. If you think there is a need for a wider coverage, let me know.

Yours,
Patricia
