The Southern Nevada Field Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is
seeking a Botanist to fill an important position in this dynamic region of
the Southwest (see link in email below). This is an opportunity for a
motivated, conscientious, knowledgeable individual to make a real
contribution to the sustainability of natural resources in and around a
rapidly growing urban environment with a rich botanical legacy. Be
involved in key decisions regarding development and other issues involving
sensitive plants and their habitats. Candidates should have a strong
background in the fields of botany, plant ecology, and related sciences,
preferably with a working knowledge of Great Basin and Mojave Desert
ecosystems. Position requires collaboration with fellow FWS staff, other
federal, state and local agencies, as well as concerned public groups and
individuals. Time will be split between necessary office work
(implementing conservation strategies, preparing recovery plans, listing
packages, consultations, and other documents related to the ESA and other
pertinent legislation) and field work in the Las Vegas area, surrounding
Mojave Desert, and other areas of the state as projects may dictate.
Public interaction and some public speaking may be required as part of
important educational efforts. Take this opportunity to make a difference
on behalf of the plant resources in this beautiful, biologically diverse
area of the country.

Currently, this position is only open to government employees; however, it
will open to all shortly. For information about this position and the Las
Vegas area, please contact Cynthia Martinez, Assistant Field Supervisor,
at (702) 525-5230 or cynthia_t_martinez at fws.gov.
