business, as a grower,<br>
wild-harvester, or manufacturer, plan to attend the WNC Naturally Event<br>
being held October 22 at the Mill Spring Agricultural Development Center
in<br>
Mill Spring, NC (Rutherford Co.). The first two WNC Naturally events, held<br>
in Bryson City and Enka/Candler in August were tremendous successes. There<br>
was networking between growers/wild-harvesters and buyers; natural product<br>
makers were introduced to all the labs, processing facilities, and other<br>
support available to help them in WNC; and attendees got to make a plant<br>
voucher and handle bags of herbs representing what buyers want and what
they<br>
don't want. The October 22 event will offer the same opportunities.<br>

The WNC Natural Products Project, the NC Natural Products Association,
and<br>
the WNC Forest Products Project invite you to attend this event designed
to<br>
strengthen the natural products industry in western NC. Growers,<br>
wild-harvesters, manufacturers, buyers, and all who are interested in<br>
working with or in the natural products industry are welcome. This day-long<br>
event will consist of short introductory sessions followed by participatory<br>
break-out sessions where you choose which topics you want to learn more<br>
about. The topics that will be covered include plant identification, voucher<br>
preparation, sustainable harvesting techniques, GAPs, cultivation, washing<br>
and drying product, economics, enterprise budgets, packaging, traceability,<br>
GMPs, product testing, value-added processing, selling to small local<br>
markets, selling wholesale, and business planning. Speakers include buyers,<br>
small manufacturers, university researchers, business experts, and more.
