That is about 20 miles south of Asheville and 250 miles west of Raleigh. This position is for a new, multi-agency grant project entitled, “Realizing the Potential of the WNC Natural Products Industry”. The primary objective of the NCSU component of the project is to provide support to farmers in western NC to produce and sell high-quality natural products. <br><br><b>Specific Job Duties will be:</b> 1. Update and expand existing educational/extension materials on medicinal herbs and other natural products (see <a href="http://ncherb.org/"><b><span style='color:#669922;text-decoration:none'>http://ncherb.org/</span></b></a>), including production leaflets, enterprise budgets, and websites. 2. Survey the wholesale buyer community to determine medicinal herbs in demand. 3. Survey farmer/landowner communities at the beginning and end of project. 4. Produce new educational materials, hardcopy, electronic, and video, on growing and selling medicinal herbs and other natural products. 5. Organize workshops, trainings, and meetings; give presentations and staff displays. 6. Help supervisor with all other aspects of the project, which may include some field work. <br><br><b>Skills and Experience Required:</b> Excellent technical (scientific, extension, and popular press) writing and communication skills. Good understanding of the medicinal herb/natural products industry and farming. Experience with Word, Excel, Dreamweaver, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, YouTube, and budgets. Ability to work alone with minimal supervision. Must have a high-school degree (or equivalent). Prefer a bachelor’s degree. Must have at least two years relevant experience. Must have a good driving record. Must be a self-starter.
