a couple comments on your excellent questions posed to the group:<br>
1. Please keep in mind that "dietary supplements" includes just about
anything that isn't a food, therefore all the vitamins and mineral
supplements would be in that category and many are synthesized. I think
your question would have been more specific if you asked if there are
any "botanical or herbal supplements" that contain synthesized
compounds. And I think the answer to that is probably also yes, but I
don't have any specific examples I can cite. Synthetic vitamin C vs.
vitamin C from rose hips comes to mind, but that isn't exactly an
herbal or botanical supplement (is it?)<br>

2. for botanical drugs, I don't know of any recent publications, but I
wanted to share this 1997 reference with the group in case some members
are not familiar with it:<br>

<font face="Arial">This small book is packed with excellent examples of
cultivating botanical raw materials for the pharmaceutical market,
including Catharanthus, Pilocarpus, Prunus africana, Panax
quinquefolius, Cinchona, Taxus... and many more. It also discusses
issues around wild harvesting of Sanguinaria (and the possibility of
growing Macleaya for sanguinarine instead), Tabebuia, Rhamnus
purshiana.... and tissue culture propagation of Podophyllum (would that
be biotechnology for the phytopharmaceutical industry?)<br>
<br>
I would love to see an update of this publication. Perhaps the authors
are on the list, or someone might know them and ask if this book was
intended as a series or if any more writing like this is available? <br>
