Dear colleagues,

We cordially invite you to attend our IUCN World Conservation Congress workshop: Better Deals for Nature and People: Collaborations for Responsible Sourcing of Wild Plant Ingredients. The workshop will take place on Monday, September 5th, 2016 at the Hawaii Convention Center, Room 317B, 11:00-13:00.

You are invited to get ideas and give ideas on how to make wild plant sourcing practices more sustainable to contribute to better livelihoods and sustainable use of plant species. This session will be of interest to a wide range of interests within the IUCN community and other organizations.

The session will highlight business models and approaches for wild plants responsible sourcing practices: what works, what doesn't and why. This will include company perspective on making FairWild certification system work, with the examples of wild Liquorice root value-chains from Kazakhstan and Georgia; conservation and livelihoods benefits of the FairWild system in Western Ghats of India; conservation through cultivation approach to American Ginseng; and the Hawaiian Sandalwood agroforestry model. The facilitated group discussion will follow presentations inviting participants to discuss relevant approaches to increase incentives for and pathways to responsible trade in wild plants in order to enhance conservation and livelihood benefits from sustainable legal trade. Finally, we invite you for FairWild goods raffle!
