Dear Friends,

The American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP) is in need of obtaining botanically authenticated samples of Eupatorium perfoliatum (boneset) for testing for the presence of potentially toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids. In approximately 25 years of testing boneset these compounds were never detected. Recently they were but it seems not all samples contain them. AHP is hoping to obtain samples from different populations in different areas. The analytical work will be conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture and the findings will be presented in an upcoming monograph of AHP and in a published paper. If anyone has the opportunity to help AHP procure botanically authenticated samples, please contact AHP Executive Director Roy Upton directly at (herbal at got.net or telephone 831-461-6317). We are happy to reimburse for shipping costs or other miscellaneous costs that may be incurred.

Many thanks for the consideration.—Roy
