I am looking to fill the primary support position in my program. This is a
permanent technical position located at the Mountain Horticultural Crops
Research and Extension Center (http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/fletcher/) just
outside of Asheville in western North Carolina. This employee will work
closely with me a wide range of commercial crops including vegetables,

sustainable production, but I also work with conventional agricultural
systems. This employee will be expected to: maintain field and greenhouse
experiments and apply treatments; collect data and maintain detailed
research notebooks; establish experiments, on-farm trials, and
demonstrations; develop experimental designs and statistically analyze data;
prepare plant material for analysis and do some lab analyses; supervise
temporary employees and interns; prepare PowerPoint presentations and
posters; and maintain inventory and order supplies. This employee will also
give presentations at field days and meetings; assist with writing and
editing articles and websites; design and install drip irrigation systems
and shade structures; and travel to research and on-farm trials and
educational programs across the state. The position is about 40% in the
office and 60% in field, woods, greenhouse, or lab. Applicants should have a
Bachelor's or higher degree in horticulture, agronomy, or some other field
of plant science with statistical coursework; and experience in field
research, organic agriculture, agricultural statistics, and growing
horticultural crops. Good computer and writing skills are required.
