Last November Congress moved to protect 3.3 million acres of the
Mid-Atlantic Highlands by passing the Highlands Conservation Act. Now, to implement the
Highlands Conservation Act, the U.S.D.A Forest Service wants to know what
areas in the Pennsylvania Highlands you want protected.
Along with the ability to conserve key lands, the Highlands Conservation Act
directs the Forest Service to study the Pennsylvania and Connecticut
Highlands in order to identify areas with "high conservation value," which would
then be are eligible for Highlands Conservation Act funding.
Beginning on October 27th the Forest Service will hold 4 listening sessions
throughout the Pennsylvania Highlands. These listening sessions will be your
opportunity to tell the Forest Service what special places you would like to
see protected in the Pennsylvania Highlands. The Forest Service will then
create a map of "high conservation value" areas that are eligible to receive
Highlands Conservation funding. This is a great opportunity to protect the
areas you love!
