SCB in DC

Announcement of the DC Chapter’s first meeting.

Purpose: SCB members at the Annual Meeting in Brazil realized that
the DC area has an unparalleled concentration of conservation
resources, institutions, and practitioners, but few opportunities for
informal interaction between them. The DC SCB Chapter will promote
interaction and collaboration between the academic, non-governmental,
and governmental conservation practitioners in the nation’s capital,
primary through the honorable and esteemed DC tradition of the
networking happy hour.

On Thursday, December 15th, we will be electing officers and setting
the agenda for the coming year. We encourage all interested SCB
members to attend, but if you cannot, please email the meeting
organizers Dr. Alex Dehgan (alexdehgan at gmail.com) or Jason Munshi-South
(south at umd.edu) to indicate your interest in participating and getting
on the mailing list.

Activities: Bi-monthly happy hours, two annual fundraisers, and other
activities as the chapter develops. No membership dues.

Organizational meeting: Thursday, December 15th, at 6:00 PM, IUCN
Conference Room, 1630 Connecticut Ave., NW, Third Floor, Washington,
DC. If you are locked out, please call (202) 387.4826.

First Inaugural Happy Hour! The first Happy Hour is planned at the
Off-the-Record Bar, in the Hays-Adam Hotel, 16th and H Streets, NW, on
January 6th, 2005. Selected by Forbes.Com as one of the "World's Best
Hotel Bars" (July 2004) Off the Record is Washington's place to be seen
and not heard. Favored by locals for its creative menu and exceptional
wine selection, Off the Record provides a relaxed atmosphere for
evening dining and entertainment. Join your host, John Boswell, 4 time
winner of Washingtonian's Best Bartender Award, as he presents his
latest specialties for your enjoyment.

For further information, contact Dr. Alex Dehgan (alexdehgan at gmail.
