CELEBRATE AVEDA’S EARTH MONTH 2005 CAMPAIGN
JOIN THE FIGHT TO SAVE THREATENED AND ENDANGERED SPECIES
-- In Salon Activities Help Save “Power Plants” and Raise Money for
                           Endangered Plants --

Minneapolis, MN – Join Aveda, The Art and Science of Pure Flower and Plant
Essences and maker of pure plant-based hair care, skin care, body care,
Pure-Fume™ aroma and makeup products in celebration of Earth Month 2005.
Aveda’s worldwide goal is to raise $1,000,000 for Earth Month partners
working towards saving threatened and endangered species from across the
world.

This year, Aveda continues to focus on preserving the Earth’s endangered
species with a particular focus on saving our “power plants”. Plants
provide the air we breathe, food and habitat for wildlife and even medical
cures – but many of our plants are threatened by suburban sprawl, over
harvesting, pollution, invasive species and global warming. During the
month of April, select salons, spas and stores will raise funds on behalf
of environmental organizations through: Appointments for the Earth, Global
Actions Pledges, selling liter size products and direct donations.

Appointments For The Earth
Beginning April 1, Salons may participate in Appointments for the Earth, an
effort that will involve hundreds of salons around the world. A portion of
the price of each service will go to a regional nonprofit organization that
works towards the protection of threatened and endangered species

Empower Plants with Rosemary Mint
During Earth Month, Aveda customers can help save power plants and raise
money by purchasing Aveda Rosemary Mint products. Rosemary and mint really
are “power” plants and invaluable resources. Rosemary’s essential oil
contains anti-oxidant levels comparable to many commercial food
preservatives and mint is proved to be an important natural antiseptic.
Salons will donate $.50 (U.S.) from sales of all Rosemary Mint retail
products and $1.00 (U.S.) from Rosemary Mint litres to select environmental
organizations. In addition, a limited edition Rosemary Mint 8.5 fl oz/250
ml Shampoo and Conditioner bottle will be printed exclusively for Earth
Month 2005 along with a new travel size and litre of Rosemary Mint Hand and
Body Wash.

Global Activism
Equally as important as raising money, Aveda hopes to encourage customers
take part in a global activism. Aveda hopes to collect a total of 100,000
signatures—a commitment from clients and staff to make every individual
action count—for a petition to save the Endangered Species Act. The
Endangered Species Act has been a safety net for plants, wildlife and fish
that are on the brink of extinction, but is now itself fighting for
survival.

Over the past five years, Aveda and its network of salons, stores and spas
have raised more $3.5 million in support of the environment. Last year,
Aveda raised $950,000 for Earth Month partners and collected 140,000 Global
Action Pledges with a commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by 140 million
pounds. More than 1,500 Aveda salons, stores and spas participated in the
program.
