I do not think that the observations of Ms. Sahai are correct.

I feel that such type of claims are made by the traditional healers
including parishioners of Ayurveda and Sidha, out of the professional
rivalry or competition. These claims are not always correct.

Though there is no doubt that the science of Ayurveda is true, but they way
it is being practiced today has made it highly unreliable. That is the
reason that nobody living at a place where modern medical facilities are
available, goes to a traditional healer in emergency. Everyone rushes his
patient to a hospital.

It is true that the herbal medicine has started making some comeback, but
it
is only in case of those diseases where is no risk of life. Or it is there
in case of things like mental stress, weakness, slimming, male impotence
etc. where it is not possible to quantify the improvement by treatment.

What we get in the market, atleast in India, on the name of herbs or herbal
preparations even made by famous companies, are very much unstandard things
and thus highly unreliable.

I think that the best way to use this knowledge is to test the efficacy of
the active ingredients contained in the herbs against the diseases for
which
these have been recommended in the scriptures as is being done at State
Research Institutes like the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow,
India
and by some private pharmaceutical companies and then to prepare REALLY
EFFECTIVE STANDARD MEDICINES based upon the active ingredients.

Unfortunately, this practice is being opposed for one reason or the other.
But ultimately, the salvation will lie only in using the modern chemical
techniques, pharmaceutical research and the traditional medical systems
like
Ayurveda together.
