font-family:Arial'>In Worcester, about 40 miles south of the (NH) state border,
777 property owners have given permission for officials to destroy infected
trees, as well as other nearby hardwoods, and another 94 people have allowed
destruction of infested trees, officials said. <br>

In the first week of the operation, which began Monday, more than 1,000 trees
of all sizes were felled and chipped by two private firms contracting for the
state and federal governments. The destruction will continue for at least five
weeks throughout parts of the 64-square-mile quarantine zone.<br>
<br>
Follow-up efforts, including surveys and treatment, could go on for as long as
a decade.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
