assist in wildlife management activities at the Chesapeake Island Refuges
(Eastern Neck, Martin and Susquehanna National Wildlife Refuges) and Blackwater
National Wildlife Refuge on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.</b></font>

<br><font size=2 face="Times New Roman"><b><u>WHAT?</u></b></font>
<br><font size=2 face="Times New Roman">Primary duties will include independently
mapping invasive species utilizing a GPS unit, and incorporating the information
into ArcGIS.  Secondary duties will include assisting with the management
of invasive species, establishing monitoring plots and monitor of invasive
species, data entry, and other duties as assigned.</font>

<br><font size=2 face="Times New Roman"><b><u>WHY?</u></b></font>
<br><font size=2 face="Times New Roman">This is an excellent opportunity
to gain valuable work experience on a National Wildlife Refuge and develop
contacts with professionals in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  Invasive
species are a high priority and a management concern at many National Wildlife
Refuges across the country. These assignments will aid in successfully
achieving management goals at the refuge level.</font>

<br><font size=2 face="Times New Roman">Eastern Neck National Wildlife
Refuge is located in Kent County, MD.  Martin National Wildlife Refuge
is located in Somerset County, MD.  Susquehanna National Wildlife
Refuge is located in Harford County, MD.  Blackwater National Wildlife
Refuge is located in Dorchester County, MD.  </font>

<br><font size=2 face="Times New Roman"><b><u>WHO?</u></b></font>
<br><font size=2 face="Times New Roman">Ideal candidates will have completed,
or be enrolled in, a BS/BA program in Zoology/Biology/Wildlife Ecology/Natural
Resource Management. Candidates should have experience using a GPS, a basic
understanding of GIS, vegetation sampling experience, interest in botanical
work, and the ability to work independently in (potentially) wet terrain
with large numbers of aggressive mosquitoes.</font>

<br><font size=2 face="Times New Roman">From mid-May through August 2005;
dates somewhat flexible. Work is 40 hours per week</font>

<br><font size=2 face="Times New Roman">$250/week stipend provided. Housing
is UNAVAILABLE.  Intern offices will be located at Eastern Neck National
Wildlife Refuge, located in Rock Hall, MD; shopping, food, and services
are available about 20 miles away in Chestertown, MD (from Eastern Neck).
 Martin National Wildlife Refuge is located on Smith Island.  Access
to Martin is via ferry.  Few services exist on Smith Island.  Blackwater
National Wildlife Refuge is located in Cambridge, MD; shopping, food and
services are available about 6 miles in Cambridge.  A vehicle will
be provided for work related travel.  Hip boots and optics will be
provided.</font>
