Other investigators have also noted the connection between the presence of nonnative plants and increased earthworm abundance or leaf litter loss (Kourtev et al. 1999, Meekins and McCarthy 2001). Earthworms might be facilitating the invasions of nonnative plants into forests by increasing nutrient availability and reducing native plant abundance (Hendrix and Bohlen 2002). Kourtev et al. Have you noticed an abundance of earthworms in the soil associated with<BR>
stilt grass? We have had fair success reestablishing native forbs in areas<BR>
where there are fewer earthworms and moderate or less where worms are<BR>
abundant.<BR>

I'd be willing to bet Japanese Stiltgrass does this too. I've had a an<BR>
impossible time getting regrowth of natives in test areas where I've<BR>
eliminated Stiltgrass for years. Even vigourous reseeders like Jewelweed<BR>
aren't coming back. <BR>
