Please RSVP to attend our second PCA meeting of 2024 where we welcome Mathew Albrecht, Missouri Botanical Garden, who will discuss “Drivers of rare plant translocation outcomes in the United States”.

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION: Reintroductions and other types of conservation translocations are increasingly used to recover rare plants when in situ conservation measures fail to adequately protect a species. Hundreds of reintroductions with rare plants, including many federally listed species, are currently underway throughout the United States, and being compiled and synthesized in a database maintained by the Center for Plant Conservation. This talk examines reintroduction projects in the database to understand how species characteristics, management techniques, and site conditions influence different metrics of reintroduction success. The implications of the results for best practices in rare plant reintroduction will also be discussed.

ABOUT OUR PRESENTER: Dr. Matthew Albrecht is a Conservation Scientist and Director of the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Center for Conservation and Sustainable Development. His current research focuses on the conservation of rare species and restoration of degraded ecosystems in the Midwest and Southeastern United States. He works closely with governmental and non-governmental agencies to apply his research findings to support science-based decision-making.

This meeting is held remotely and open to all. More information about the presentation can be found on our PCA Meetings page<https://www.plantconservationalliance.org/meetings>.
