Presentation Topic: Nursery produced native plant seedlings: a valuable tool in the toolbox of landscape and cultural restoration

About the Presentation:
When it comes to choosing plant materials for any type of revegetation project, there are a plethora of options to pick from. Finding the right one, however, involves many factors that need to balance time, cost, scale, priority, and available resources. Direct seeding or natural regeneration can be effective plant establishment strategies in some restoration applications, but the use of nursery plant materials can be an effective option and should be an additional tool in the revegetation toolbox. This presentation covers the basics when considering the use of nursery seedlings including timing, seed use, stocktype, application, and benefits, and also covers how some tribes integrate cultural objectives into restoration and conservation projects.

About the Presenter:
Jeremy is a Research Plant Physiologist for the USDA Forest Service, in the Rocky Mountain Research Station. His research primarily deals with nursery cultural practices and their effects on the establishment and subsequent growth of reforestation and restoration plant materials. Jeremy also serves as a Tribal Nursery Specialist on the National Reforestation, Nurseries, and Genetic Resources (RNGR) team. In this role, he provides technical assistance to tribal nurseries as well as manage the Intertribal Nursery Council.
