Abstract or Summary

Parrot-feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum) is an aquatic plant in the water milfoil family native to South America. It is widely distributed across North America, Europe, Asia, Australasia, and Africa as an invasive species. Outside of its native range, parrot-feather is regarded as a troublesome weed, due to its ability to grow quickly and clog or stagnate shallow waterways. We report six sightings of parrotfeather in the state of Massachusetts, USA from 2006 to 2017 compiled from stateorganized surveys. Approaches to control this invasive species, such as physical removal, chemical treatment, and potential biological agents, are also discussed in this report, with specific recommendations made to expand monitoring efforts in Massachusetts and control newly detected populations.
