Does anyone have a summary of research on the effects on non-native invasive
species mono-cultures reducing the ability of forests to reduce climate
change?

USDA-ARS Overseas Biological Control Laboratories (OBCL) Contribution to
Biological Control Programs.

At the presentation on Jan 14, 2020, in Beltsville, Massimo Cristofaro
reported that a new Yellow star thistle biological control will be released
next year in California. This non-native plant species is also invasive in
Maryland. As a stake holder, The Natural Places Committee of the Maryland
Chapter of the Sierra Club requests maximum support for the critical
research conducted by the Overseas Lab's to find potential effective and
host specific biological control of species of insects, pathogens and plants
invasive in America. These USDA federal overseas laboratories carry out the
most needed stage of research.

Subject: Invitation: USDA-ARS Overseas Biological Control Laboratories
(OBCL) Customer-Stakeholder Meeting - January 14, 2020
Importance: High

Hello,

If you have not done so already, this is a friendly reminder to please let
us know by December 9, 2019, if you plan to attend the one-day USDA-ARS
Overseas Biological Control Laboratories (OBCL) Customer-Stakeholder Meeting
- January 14, 2020.

Thank you in advance.

Dear USDA-ARS Customer/Stakeholder:

You are invited to attend the Customer-Stakeholder Meeting for USDA-ARS
Overseas Biological Control Laboratories (OBCL), on Tuesday, January 14,
2020, in Beltsville, Maryland.

The goal of this Customer-Stakeholder Meeting is to highlight the
opportunities that exist for our USDA-ARS partnered OBCLs to contribute to
collaborative projects and to elicit your input as to how we can work better
towards meeting your needs. This workshop will consist of morning
presentations and afternoon break-out sessions for discussions focusing on
biological control, ecological studies, taxonomy, and other related topics
regarding invasive weeds and insects. Your input will be important for
formulating high-priority objectives that will foster collaborative research
in this area.

*	The one-day workshop will be held at the USDA-ARS National
Agricultural Library (NAL) in Beltsville, MD, on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.

*	By Monday, December 9, 2019, please let us know if you plan to
attend or not, by e-mailing the ARS International mailbox at
<mailto:ARSInternational at usda.gov> ARSInternational at usda.gov.

*	If you personally cannot attend, we would appreciate if you could
recommend a person to represent your interests.
