*TITLE:  FORCES Program Coordinator *



*WORK LOCATION: New York State Parks in Westchester County*

*PROGRAM DESCRIPTION*:

The New York State Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation
seeks a highly motivated and experienced individual to coordinate the *FORCES
*(*F*riends *O*f *R*ecreation, *C*onservation and *E*nvironmental
*S*tewardship)
program within four State Parks (Rockefeller State Park Preserve, Old
Croton Aqueduct, FDR State Park and John Jay Homestead State Historic
Site).   FORCES advances land stewardship, conservation science and
education, and boosts collegiate and public volunteerism in State Parks.



*SALARY and TIMEFRAME:  *$13.40/hour.  Fulltime (40 hours) from early April
to late October (flexible).  The incumbent may be required to work some
week nights, weekends and holidays.



*JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *



·         Hire and supervise two seasonal Land Stewards from local colleges



·         Work with Park Managers to plan and implement land stewardship
and vegetation management projects that promote native biodiversity and
reduce invasive species.



·         Help conduct periodic workshops and field days for students and
the public that offer basic training in local natural history, conservation
biology and land stewardship.



·         Keep daily logs and land management records



·         Promote the FORCES program via multiple media, including
presentations, articles, newsletters, local newspapers, OPRHP and
participating academia websites, Facebook and e‐mail.



*QUALIFICATIONS:   *BS or MS preferred in environmental sciences, natural
resource or recreation management, or related field with experience in
environmental stewardship/education, civic engagement, and coordination of
volunteer/service learning programs desired.  Requirements:

·         knowledge of Lower Hudson Valley’s natural, cultural and
recreational resources;

·         be physically fit and able to work full days outside;

·         experience in natural resource management;

·         passion for connecting with and mentoring college students; and

·         ability to form relationships with community partners, park
patrons and educational institutions, including K‐12 schools and collegiate
institutions.

·         A valid NYS Driver’s License

·         Preferred skills include familiarity with invasive weed control
and experience with small power tools and land management equipment.
