Job Description:  Perform a wide range of duties related to invasive
species management. The incumbent will provide technical assistance to
District staff regarding invasive species management, including herbicide
usage, plant identification, and control strategies. The position will also
assist with planning and contract oversight for technically challenging
invasive species operations, including biological control projects. In
addition, the position will assist with invasive species monitoring,
herbicide evaluation studies, data analysis, and report writing. The
incumbent will also participate on various interagency teams coordinating
invasive species management. The incumbent will develop invasive species
management plans for District projects; plan and oversee invasive species
monitoring and research management activities, and assist with report
preparation. This position reports to the Vegetation Management Section’s
Lead Scientist and will work closely with other Section staff in
coordinating vegetation management activities in a timely and efficient
manner.



Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to
plan and manage heavy workloads; enthusiasm; a temperament for dealing with
harsh field conditions; and a willingness and commitment to actively
contribute to a collaborative team work effort. Experience with aquatic and
terrestrial invasive species identification, monitoring, control, and
management is preferred. Proficiency working with complex databases and
spatial analysis software is preferred.



Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:  Due to the District’s response
role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at
times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm
events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared
emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. The work
environment is a combination of office and field work, with regular
exposure to a hot and humid environment in remote and heavy vegetative
areas, with exposure to stinging/biting insects, snakes, and alligators.
May be required to lift up to 40 lbs.



Employment Guidelines: Typically has a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant
field (Agronomy, Weed Science, Botany, Plant Ecology, Conservation Biology,
Natural Resource Management) and 2+ years’ experience that demonstrates
measurable career progression in the area of applied ecology and management
of vegetation in aquatic and terrestrial natural areas.



Licenses:

Valid State of Florida Driver’s License required.  Possession or ability to
acquire within 180 days State of Florida restricted pesticide applicators
license.

Airboat experience preferred. District airboat certification will be
required within 180 days. Incumbent continues to implement career
development plan to obtain any professional licenses or certifications that
may be required or preferred at the higher level positions.



Salary Minimum $46,987.20

Salary Midpoint: $55,848.00

Salary Maximum $80,516.80
