Hi,

Smart-phone apps are now available for mapping invasive species in the
mid-Atlantic region using i-phone, i-pad and Android phones. It's called
"MAEDN" for Mid Atlantic Early Detection Network and is the result of a
cooperative effort between NPS National Capital Region (IPM and Invasive
Species Program) and the University of Georgia's Center for Invasive
Species and Ecosystem Health "Bugwood" project. The apps were developed
specifically for our region and currently contain 100 highly invasive
plant species plus a handful of invasive insects and other pests
(including Didymo!) through additional support from the University of
Maryland Cooperative Extension Service.

To get started, go to http://apps.bugwood.org and click on "Our
Applications", then on "Mid-Atlantic Early Detection Network"
or go directly to: http://apps.bugwood.org/mid_atlantic.html

While you're there, check out the rest of the cool apps they offer. They
are all free.

I hope you'll download and start trying these out. There will be some
improvements coming soon to the MAEDN app including eventually having all
300+/- invasive plant species reported for our area in the app database.
Plant files will be arranged by habit (tree, shrub, vine, herb, grass..)
and other changes to facilitate use.

If you have any questions or suggestions for improvements, please feel
free to contact me.

Thank you,

Jil
