They are rapid in growth in conditions inhospitable to most native tree
species.

seed mid to late winter.  Prefers NYC concrete but will probably
germinate on anything that is moist and warm >65 <80 degrees F.

 

Please be sure to destroy them all when you're done with the research
project.  If you don't they'll find a way to escape.

Hi all, tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima) is the subject of a
research project. It's an obnoxious, non-native tree that can grow
nearly anywhere with a bit of water, and is perhaps the most-rapidly
growing tree in No. America.

Question: Does anyone have experience, or know of someone who might, in
germinating Ailanthus from seed?

(I won't be planting it wild, but running some controlled field and
greenhouse tests.)
