The Government of Seychelles (GOS), with the assistance of the United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and funding from the Global
Environmental Facility (GEF), is undertaking a project on  "Mainstreaming
Prevention and Control Measures For Invasive Alien Species Into Trade,
Transport And Travel Across The Production Landscape". The Programme
Coordination Unit for GOS/UNDP/GEF projects in Seychelles is seeking a
qualified international candidate to take up the following full-time,
long-term (3-year) position, starting from June 2009:

  BIOSECURITY ADVISER

The Biosecurity Adviser will coordinate and take a lead role in the
reorientation and strengthening of the Plant and Animal Health Services
(part of the Seychelles Agricultural Agency) to function as a Biosecurity
Service, ensuring appropriate linkages and effective coordination with
other institutions working in this area. This will especially entail
institutional, systemic and individual capacity development of the
concerned institutions to undertake this role.  The Biosecurity Adviser
will undertake functions related to all aspects of IAS management
(prevention, control, mitigation and eradication), but with a primary
focus in working with the "Plant and Animal Health Services" on the
prevention of the introduction and spread of Invasive Alien Species in the
Seychelles archipelago.


  GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

- Advance University Degree in natural resources sciences (biology,
  ecology, environmental management, agriculture, etc.), with  significant
background in prevention and control of Invasive Alien  Species (IAS) /
pests / weeds;

- More than 5 years senior management level experience in IAS/pests/weeds 
control and quarantine functions;

- Knowledge of international conventions, treaties, guidelines,
and recent best practices governing IAS control and quarantine functions;

- Experience with institutional and human resources development;

- Experience in small island states preferred;

- Fluent written and oral communication in English. Knowledge of Creole 
and French an advantage.
