Never ending invasives meets another never-ending idea to get rid of them.

Andrew Boose, the Metro Parks Arborist is coordinating a demonstration of
a Toolcat from Bobcat Enterprises and a Contactor series Hy-Reach Clipper
attachment from Precision MFG INC sold in Ohio by Koenig Equipment. We
would like to get more people involved in viewing the combined
capabilities of these machines. The Toolcat is very versatile machine.
It is available for rent or purchase from Bobcat Enterprises and is an
alternative to a skid-steer. Skid-steer machines tend to damage trails
surfaces and adjacent turf whereas the Toolcat has four-wheel steering
capacities which, would greatly reduce surface damage. The focus of this
demonstration is selective removal of honeysuckle, autumn olive and other
invasive shrubs with subsequent herbicide treatment to the cut stumps.
The planned site for the demonstration is the Metro Parks Heritage Trail
where the combined issues of invasive shrubs and trail edge maintenance
are at hand. Please join us on April 22 to attend a hands-on
demonstration of these potentially useful machines in the fight against
invasive shrubs and other woody plants that encroach on trails. Please
contact Andrew Boose at 614-895-6209 if you are interested in attending
this demonstration event.
