Biological Scientist IV Position

Bureau of Invasive Plant Management

The FDEP, Bureau of Invasive Plant Management (BIPM) is seeking candidates 
to fill a vacant Biological Scientist IV position, stationed in 
Tallahassee, Florida. Descriptions of duties and knowledge, skills and

DESCRIPTION
Incumbent is responsible for assessing aquatic plant-related problems in 
Florida's public lakes and rivers and working with BIPM field staff as 
well as other government and private sector contractors and stakeholders 
to develop, implement, and evaluate effectiveness of aquatic plant 
management programs.  Incumbent processes aquatic plant management work 
plan and task assignment modification requests in a timely manner, and 
reviews invoices to ensure completeness and conformity with approved work 
plans.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Conducts field inspections and identifies aquatic plants.  Assists in 
drafting aquatic plant management plans.  Explains invasive aquatic 
plant-related problems and management programs to stakeholder groups. 
Processes work plan request and modifications as well as examines invoices 
to ensure compliance with contract and task assignment specifications. 
Attends meetings and transfers latest management technology and strategies 
to BIPM contractors to apply to management programs.

EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of common aquatic plants found in Florida or southern waters.
Knowledge of current aquatic plant management tools and strategies.
Knowledge of basic personal computer office software.
Ability to identify aquatic plants.
Ability to interpret bathymetric charts, develop, and interpret aquatic 
plant management plans.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to operate an airboat.
Ability to maintain a valid driver.s license.

Knowledge and Experience with Word, Excel and other MS applications is 
highly preferred.

A BS degree in the Biological Sciences or related field and at least two 
years experience in aquatic plant management is preferred.
