Dr. Cindy Hale has sent the following message -

Greetings from the Snowy Northland! It's hard to think about worms when
there is 3 feet of snow and sub zero temps but none the less...Best Wishes
to to you all in this holiday season and the new year. I'll be out Dec.
24th- Jan 4th but back after that to field questions etc.

In addition to the opportunity listed below, I have 2 other positions (one
research and one citizen science/education), based in Duluth, MN that we
expect to post this spring some time. I'll let you know when I know more,
but if you have students who might be interested, have them contact me
directly.

But for now, I and two colleagues are searching for 2 PhD students to join
our USDA funded project “Acceleration of inorganic nutrient release and
mineral-organic matter association by biophysical soil mixing along an
earthworm invasion chronosequence.” This project will quantitatively couple
the ecology of earthworm invasion in the Chippewa National Forest in
Minnesota with two major biogeochemical processes: mineral weathering and
carbon cycling. For more information, visit http://udel.edu/~kyoo/worm.html
. Accepted students will be mentored by an interdisciplinary team of
scientists - Kyungsoo Yoo at University of Delaware, Anthony Aufdenkampe at
UD and Stroud Water Research Center, and Cindy Hale at the University of
Minnesota Duluth. Degrees will be granted by the University of Delaware’s
Dept. of Plant and Soil Sciences, with coursework customized from extensive
offerings throughout UDel. We seek students to start summer-fall 2009. We
encourage interested students to email Yoo ( kyoo at udel.edu ) and
Aufdenkampe ( aufdenkampe at stroudcenter.org ) for details.

Interested students should electronically submit a letter of application,
statement of research interest, transcripts, GRE and TOEFL scores, and
three letters of references to:

Dr. Amy Broadhurst
Center for Critical Zone Research
Universiyt of Delaware
Delaware Biotechnology Instiute
15 Inovation Way,

Email: als at udel.edu

Official applications are due at University of Delaware’s Graduate Office (
http://www.udel.edu/gradoffice/applicants/ ) on April 1, 2009 for admission
for summer 2009.
