Hello,

At the end of last year I sent an e-mail asking this list serve for
support. I received many responses from people all over the United
States that work with agencies, non-profits, citizen organizations and
others who focus on invasive exotic species management. Thank you for
your efforts and thoughtful responses.

As a result of this information, other presentations, discussions and
meetings involving many knowledgeable people, on May 22, 2008, the
Reston Association Board of Directors adopted a resolution on Vegetation
Use and Maintenance. This resolution states that the following plants
are prohibited from being installed on Reston property:

*      Bradford pear-Pyrus calleryana

*      Japanese Barberry-Berberis thunbergii

*      Exotic bamboos-Bambusa

*      Japanese (Wisteria floribunda)

*      Oriental Bittersweet-Celastrus orbiculatus

*      Winged Burning bus-Euonymus alata

*      Exotic Bush Honeysuckles

*      Exotic Wisterias-Chinese (Wisteria sinensis)

*      English Ivy-Hedera helix

This is a very progressive step for Reston. There are many challenges we
face currently, such as outreach and enforcement but laying the policy
out was a

momentous step.

Thanks again for your support,

Patricia
