The Midwest Invasive Plant Network will be holding its annual meeting in
conjunction with the North Central Weed Science Society (NCWSS) Conference in
Indianapolis, Dec. 8-11. The MIPN sponsored events will include:
*1/2 day symposium on current researcch on invasive plants, including talks by
- Tom Stohlgren (USGS) on climate change and invasive plants
- Scott Meiners (Southern Illinois University) on the impacts of invasive
shrubs on tree seed predation
- Susan Kalisz (University of Pittsburgh) on the effects of white-tailed deer
on invasive plants
- Kay Havens (Chicago Botanic Garden) on evaluating cultivars of plants used
in horticulture for invasiveness
* 1/2 day of contributed papers on invasive plants
* Full day of workshops on a wide variety of invasive plant topics, including
- Species-specific control workshops (Canada thistle, garlic mustard, reed
canarygrass, Japanese stiltgrass, Asian bush honeysuckle)
- Fire and invasive plants
- Mapping invasive plants
- Invasive species risk assessment
- Collaboration between researchers and land managers
- Invasive species in Indiana with an update on plans for invasive species
legislation
- Ecosystem impacts of invasive plants
- Cooperative Weed Management Areas
If you would like to present a poster or a talk at the conference, you need to
submit your title to the North Central Weed Science Society by September 5. Full
abstracts are not due until November, but submitting a title will hold a place for
your presentation or poster. To submit a title, follow this link [

site [www.ncwss.org]. Information regarding the meeting will be posted on the
NCWSS web site as it becomes available.
NCWSS is offering a discounted $75 registration fee for anyone wishing to attend
only the MIPN sessions on Dec. 10 and 11. We hope you will plan to attend!
