GS-4 & 5 Major duties:
Assists the resource manager in the implementation of the park’s resource
management program. Incumbents will serve primarily as members of the
park’s 5 person exotic plant management team. Major duties for these
positions are the following:
1. Control exotic invasive plants through the use of chemical,
mechanical, manual, and biological methods.
2. Perform various administrative work relating to resource management
including: drafting reports/plans, recording data on paper and in a
computer database, and keeping a log of daily activities.
3. Utilize a variety of computer programs to compile, store, retrieve,
analyze and report resource management information and data.
4. Inventory and monitoring of flora and fauna including birds
(especially raptors), amphibians, reptiles, prairie dogs and other small
mammals.
5. Provide information to other employees and visitors about the natural
resource management program.
6. May assists park staff in special or emergency situations as needed
(wildland fire, prescribed fire, search and rescue)

GS-6 Major duties:
Assists the resource manager in the implementation of the park’s resource
management program. Incumbents will serve primarily as technical and data
manager lead for the park’s 5 person exotic plant management team. Major
duties for these positions are the following:
1. Control exotic invasive plants through the use of chemical,
mechanical/manual, and biological methods.  Installs, operates, and
maintains resource management equipment (e.g., tools and sampling,
monitoring, photographic, and laboratory equipment). Inventories equipment,

evaluates quality assurance compliance, and calibrates equipment as
necessary.
2. Assists in the preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines.  Draft
project reports may include literature research, descriptions of methods,
preparation of graphs and charts, and summary of findings.
3. Utilize a variety of computer programs, including Trimble GPS
Pathfinder Office and Esri ArcGIS to compile, store, retrieve, analyze and
report resource management information and data.
4. Inventory and monitoring of flora and fauna including birds
(especially raptors), amphibians, reptiles, prairie dogs and other small
mammals.
5. Provide information to other employees and visitors about the natural
resource management program.  Provides advice, assistance, and training to
students, student conservation assistants, and volunteers involved in
resource management projects and field research.
6. May assists park staff in special or emergency situations as needed
(wildland fire, prescribed fire, search and rescue)


For each position:

Work will be performed outdoors, often under adverse (hot) weather
conditions.  Employee must be able to hike over rough terrain, in all
types of weather, while carrying equipment in the hands and/or in a
backpack.  Work requires frequent bending, stooping, squatting, prolonged
standing and walking.  Work requires lifting and moving heavy items.  Work
requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).  PPE is equipment
used to protect the health of the employee, such as rubber gloves, rubber
boots, long sleeve shirt and long pants.
