U.S. FISH & WILDLIFE SERVICE

FISH AND WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST (INVASIVE SPECIES)

SALARY RANGE: 55,360.00 - 71,965.00 USD per year OPEN PERIOD: Friday,
December 22, 2006 to Tuesday, January 16, 2007 SERIES & GRADE:
GS-0401-12 POSITION INFORMATION: Full Time Career Conditional
DUTY LOCATIONS:   1 vacancy - HONOLULU, HI

This position serves as a Fish and Wildlife Biologist in the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service (Service), Pacific Islands Fish and Wildlife Office
located in Honolulu, Hawai`i.  The incumbent serves as both an invasive
species and invasive disease biologist implementing Service positions
and policies on interdiction, control, and eradication of various
invasive species and diseases that have, or may have, negative impacts
on Federal trust resources, including listed endangered and threatened
species, in the Territory of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern
Mariana Islands, American Samoa, and the State of Hawai`i.   The
incumbent will serve as a lead biologist related to certain invasive
species and disease.  This position will involve complex interagency
coordination.

MAJOR DUTIES:

* Implement Service positions and policies on the detection, monitoring,
prevention, response, control and eradication of invasive species and
diseases including in the Pacific Islands Ecoregion.
* Coordinate interagency efforts related to prevention, interdiction,
control, and potential response to invasive species and diseases of
conservation concern in the Pacific Islands Ecoregion.
* Conduct interagency coordination, develop position papers, and
coordinate with other Federal, State, and Territorial agencies to
develop standards for monitoring, interdiction, eradication and control
of invasive species and diseases.  Work with experts from other Federal,
State, and Territorial agencies, and private groups to provide support
for island-based invasive species programs.
* Provide expertise in invasive species and disease prevention,
monitoring, interdiction, and control.  This would include project
design and monitoring, preparation of planning and policy documentation.

* Convenes multi-stakeholder meetings, coordinates public outreach, and
articulates Fish and Wildlife Service position to the public.
* Develop and maintain partnerships to leverage funding for invasive
species and disease control through Federal agencies, local government,
and private organizations for the purpose of developing a strong
biosecurity program in the Pacific Islands Ecoregion.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid.
A 25% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) will be paid in addition to the
salary listed above.
