Nonnative species threaten to choke out natural habitats

Nature's palette in Central Texas is a muted one, especially in winter. 
The buff color of limestone outcroppings and wild grasses is mottled with 
the soft gray-greens of live oaks and prickly pear.

So it was strange to find that natural look almost entirely missing when 
Rene Barrera, manager of the city's nature preserves, led a group of about 
45 volunteers into Blunn Creek Nature Preserves recently.
