Subject: Call for papers for Dec. 13/14 Invasive Plant Meeting
            in Milwaukee

This December we will be having a regional Midwest Invasive
Plants Conference in Milwaukee on Dec. 13 and 14, as part of a
larger weed science conference. The audience will be primarily
university weed scientists, land managers, stewardship
volunteers, agency folks and landowners. If you have some work
you have done on invasive plant ecology, controls, mapping,
public awareness or other invasive plant work, we would love to
have you present it. Please look over the info below and
consider presenting a 15 minute talk on your work, or
presenting a poster (materials will be pinned up on a 4' x 4'
foam core board). The talks would be on the afternoon of Dec.
13 and posters would be up all day Wed, and at least Thurs. AM.
To submit a title, go to the NCWSS website (www.ncwss.org),
then to the "annual meeting", then the "title submission"
section. Ignore the fact that some of the questions won't apply
to you (eg: crop investigated) - this form is set up for the
weed science papers and doesn't necessarily fit invasives
presentations. Regardless, answer the questions you can,
indicate that you want to be in the invasives section and
submit the form. If you have any questions, contact the section
chair, Kevin Gibson, who is listed at the end of this message.
Also, ignore the early Sept. deadline listed and if possible,
get your title in by the end of this week (Sept. 15). If it is
later, contact Kevin directly ASAP and he'll try to fit you in.
Abstracts will be due in early Nov.

We would especially like talks on the control of some of new
invaders some of you are working with, including stilt grass,
Japanese hops, swallow-worts, hedge-parsley and others. Call me
if you have any questions. Thanks!

            ---------------------------------------------
Please mark your calendars for an important meeting on Invasive
            Plants in the Midwest.

The North Central Weed Science Society (NCWSS), Midwest
Invasive Plant Network (MIPN) and the Invasive Plants
Association of Wisconsin (IPAW) will cosponsor a two-day
program (Dec. 13 and 14) on invasive plants in the Midwest.
The program will be held during the NCWSS Annual Meeting at the
Hyatt Regency Hotel in Milwaukee, Dec. 12-14, 2006. IPAW and
MIPN will also hold their annual meetings at the conference.

The Invasive Plants program is designed to meet the needs of
and encourage interaction among researchers, land managers, and
anyone interested in managing invasive plants. It will include
invited presentations, contributed papers and posters, and a
series of workshops on the management of garlic mustard,
buckthorn, and multiflora rose, collaboration among researchers
and land managers, herbicide use and safety, and several other
topics. This meeting will give land managers and landowners
the opportunity to meet with researchers, extension agents, and
herbicide and restoration company representatives to discuss
the need for further research and products for invasive plant
            control.

Registration is $40 for one day and $60 for both days. For more
information on the conference, please visit the NCWSS website
            at <http://www.ncwss.org/> www.ncwss.org. Additional
information on speakers and workshop topics will be announced
in the next few weeks and posted on the NCWSS website and at <
            http://www.ipaw.org/> www.ipaw.org

            and <http://www.mipn.org/> www.mipn.org.

Titles for contributed papers may be submitted on-line at the
            NCWSS website
(www.ncwss.org) and must be posted by September 5, 2006.
            Please select
"Annual Meeting" on the green navigation bar to the left.
Follow the instructions for the "Title Submission Form" and
            fill out the forms completely.

We believe we've put together a great program and encourage
everyone interested in invasive plants in the Midwest to
            attend.
