Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Multiple student interns will be hired to work on invasive plant
management with the Science and Resources Management Division of Cuyahoga
Valley National Park during May-August 2005.  The interns will monitor,
map and control non-native invasive plant populations.

Duties include manually and chemically managing invasive plants, recording
data, photographing sites before and after management, data entry,
coordinating volunteer invasive plant monitoring and management crews, and
other tasks as assigned.

Applicants must be able to work independently and within small groups with
minimal supervision. Candidates must be willing  to use herbicides, and
work in possibly hot, humid, or muddy, wet, cool conditions in all sorts
of weather, around or in poison ivy, stinging insects, shallow water,
wetlands, mud and brush. Candidates must be able to use hand tools such as
hand pruners, loppers, saws, and backpack sprayers.

Essential skills include the ability to take accurate notes, read
topographical maps, hike over rough terrain while carrying backpack
sprayers, equipment and supplies. Botany coursework, plant identification
skills, knowledge of herbicides, and field experience are preferred.
Training in field techniques and safety will be provided.

The positions will begin in mid-May and will continue through the end
of August. Work hours Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   Salary:
approximately $11.00 per hour.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license.

Extended absences during the field season will not be possible.
