The International union of forestry research organizations (IUFRO) has
formed a new Working Party 7.03.12 - Alien Invasive Species and
International Trade
The Specific Objectives of this working party are to
• Share information and research results
• Develop data sharing agreements and contribute to global
pest information systems
• Coordinate joint research and monitoring efforts
• Encourage improvement and extension of Pest Risk Analysis
techniques
• Provide research support toward the development of
mitigation strategies
• Act as an interface with other IUFRO Working Parties with
particular interests in invasive species, e.g. population dynamics,
bark beetles, etc.
This Working Party will hold its first meeting 3 - 7 July 2006 at the
European Forest Training Center in Jedlnia in Radom, Poland. The science
programme will include papers and posters covering any[forest] invasive
organisms, including insects, pathogens and plants. The meeting will be
mainly organized by the Forest Research Institute and Research Institute
of Pomology and Floriculture and accommodation has been arranged at the
hotel in Jedlnia (about 100 km from Warsaw). The cost of the hotel,
registration, local transportation, printing of conference abstracts and
proceedings, etc. will be in the region of €400 (about $500), although this
is dependent on final negotiations and on numbers attending. In addition
to the meeting sessions, we will be arranging excursions to local forest
and nursery sites in the Pulawy region and to Warsaw and Żelazowa Wola.
