EMPLOYMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Title: Biological Scientist
Description:This position is in the UF/IFAS Agronomy Department Center for
Aquatic and Invasive Plants, which is located on university property in
Northwest Gainesville, FL. The Biologist will implement, under supervision
of faculty, studies to evaluate various methods for control of aquatic and
natural area (invasive plant species) weeds. Most of these evaluations will
involve application of herbicides by various techniques, while cooperative
studies related to biological and other control methods may be conducted in
cooperation with other faculty. The biologist will also cooperative closely
with herbicide manufacturer representatives, agency personnel, and county
Extension agents. Registered and numbered experimental herbicides will be
evaluated in laboratory, greenhouse, mesocosm, and replicated field/lake
tests. Equipment such as outboard power boats, airboats, chainsaws, and
pesticide sprayers will frequently be operated in the field and equipment
such as microscopes, and analytical balances will be used in the
laboratory. Computer hardware and software will frequently be used for data
analysis and report writing. The biologist will be responsible for
maintaining all equipment and greenhouses. The biologist will assist with
providing research findings to end users. This work will require routine
travel and overnight stays within the state of Florida, often be physically
demanding, and be fun and rewarding.
Starting salary: $26,342
